Elijah Cineas
Vocal Coach | San Francisco and Virtual | Founder of The Cineas Studio
Hey everyone!
My name is Elijah Cineas, I am the founder of The Cineas Studio! In addition to my work as a music educator and arts administrator, I am a professional singer and worship leader!
I train singers to use successful vocal technique, teach them how their voice works, and mentor them into working as professional vocalists. My teaching gives people vocal control so that they can sing with a beautiful tone, create powerful sounds, and use agility. That being said, I teach a wide range of genres including pop, R&B, soul, gospel, musical theater, and classical music.
I also teach style and musicianship. This includes music literacy (sight reading, understanding harmony, understanding a score and a chart) and ear training (harmonizing, mimicry).
Specific skills I teach are: how to get rid of strain and breaks, breath control, using the body to support your voice, how to sing riffs and runs, how to expand your vocal range, how to belt and use mixed voice, understanding and singing harmonies, how to read music, stage presence, audition prep (musical theater, classical, college vocal performance, professional opportunities).
As a mentor, I help students find performance opportunities and encourage them to put themselves out there so that they can get the most out of the skills they’re building.
Each lesson starts with vocal warm-ups and workouts followed by song coaching. For students working on musicianship or theory, that is also worked into our weekly time. My teaching is upbeat and encouraging - but it is also transparent and direct. I want students to get as much progress as they can out of a lesson, and I want them to enjoy it.
I think it’s a waste of a singer’s time and money to go take voice lessons that teach them how to fake or struggle through a few songs, but don’t give them the tools to be self-sufficient singers. I call this kind of teaching “patch jobs”, and I don’t do it with my weekly students. Instead, I help singers understand why they’re struggling to sing a certain way, and then give them tools to improve their singing inside and outside of their lesson. I always make sure that tools are understandable and accessible so that they can be used during independent practice.
In my teaching, I work to pass on successful methods of singing that have worked for myself and others, especially principles of the Italian bel canto tradition and the gospel training that I grew up with. While we spend a lot of time on technique, singing is much more than that. To be effective and successful, you have to be compelling about what you’re singing. While this comes naturally to some, others have to work on it. I work with my students on making sure each song that they offer is convincing and expressive by using acting and storytelling exercises to develop subtext.
Great singers are also great musicians, who understand how to ad lib, improvise, riff, run, read a chord chart, and read sheet music. I do this through comprehensive curricula, riff and run exercises, and artist imitation. For my adult students this work is “challenge by choice”; for students under 18 it's required.
I challenge my students to practice on a daily basis. I also challenge them to expand their comfort zone by taking on difficult music when they can handle it.
In addition to being a lifelong musician, I am currently pursuing my Masters of Music in Voice Performance at The San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have also earned a Bachelors of Music in Opera Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (CSU Long Beach). My coursework included in-depth studies in music theory, vocal jazz, acting, music education, and piano. My professional credits include performances and cover roles in Russian, French, German, and Italian including the composers Mozart, Rossini, Prokofiev, and Wagner. Y’all - Russian opera is so much fun.
I have worked as a vocal coach for Elsinore High School’s Choir and Theater, Paloma Valley High School Theater, Temescal Canyon High School Theater, Murrieta Valley High School Choir, and Canyon Lake Community Theater. I have musically directed Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, Between the Lines, The Little Mermaid, Hadestown (Teen Edition), and Beetlejuice Jr. I am also the founding director of the Elsinore Valley Children’s Choir and the Riverside Children’s Choir. That being said, I have experience teaching kids from ages 5 to 80 in groups and one on one. As long as you love singing, I’m happy to work with you.
I am currently accepting voice students virtually and in San Francisco.
I know that taking lessons is a serious investment, and I am passionate about helping you get the best return. After years of private teaching experience, I can tell you that I get the most results out of students who love music and are serious about their improvement. If you are ready to be get to work- let’s get to started!

“Mr. Cineas is an amazing teacher. I was interested in taking voice lessons to get better at singing for theater, and I can say I’ve improved a lot in my weakest areas. We’ve worked on some mixing, strengthening head voice, adding character to songs, and reading solfège. By far my favorite was the work we did with head voice, it’s exciting to learn how high you can sing!“

Elijah has been so influential on my singing. I came to him rusty and out of touch with my voice. He helped me regain my confidence and my abilities. He makes your lessons fun, engaging, and impactful. What more can you ask for in a vocal coach? I am so grateful I found him and I am excited to keep working with him. He’ll help you master any song and you’ll have fun in the process!
